February 5, 2020

Portsmouth businesses are being offered thousands of pounds worth of free training for apprentices or employees looking to boost their skills.

Portsmouth City Council is using National Apprenticeship Week 2020 to remind companies that they can get funding for one or more apprenticeships from the Department for Education’s apprenticeship levy pot.

The offer is open to firms in the city with an annual payroll of under £3m. The deadline for applying is 31 March 2020.

Cllr Steve Pitt, Cabinet Member for Culture and City Development at Portsmouth City Council, said: “This is an amazing opportunity if you run a small or medium-sized business in the city.

“The fund is open for applications now and I would encourage businesses to get their requests in soon.”

For more details, and an application form, businesses should email andy.taylor@portsmouthcc.gov.uk Some terms and conditions apply.

Alongside free apprenticeship training, businesses are supporting young people in the city during National Apprenticeship Week. Secondary school students are meeting businesses such as BAE Systems, the Ministry of Defence and The University of Portsmouth to learn about careers in different sectors.
