The Portsmouth Advanced Manufacturing & Engineering Cluster (PAMAEC) brings together leading engineering and manufacturing businesses from Portsmouth and the surrounding area.
Formed in 2019, PAMAEC is a business-led network supported by Portsmouth City Council and partners. It provides a space for businesses to work together, share knowledge and shape future plans for the sector.
The cluster also helps promote Portsmouth as a strong and competitive location for advanced manufacturing and engineering.
What PAMAEC does
PAMAEC supports the local manufacturing and engineering sector by:
- Bringing businesses together to share ideas, solve problems and explore new opportunities
- Supporting innovation, including joint research, new technology and links with universities
- Helping develop skills by aligning training with what employers need
- Giving businesses a collective voice to influence local and regional policy
- Promoting Portsmouth as a leading centre for advanced manufacturing and engineering
- Supporting business growth, including supply chain development and investment opportunities
- Encouraging regular, constructive dialogue between industry, local authorities and partners
Membership
Membership of PAMAEC is free and open to advanced manufacturing and engineering businesses in Portsmouth and nearby areas, including supply chain SMEs.
Members are expected to take an active role to keep the network useful, practical and focused on business needs.
What PAMAEC offers members

- Six in-person meetings each year, often hosted by member businesses
- Opportunities to build relationships and collaborate across the local supply chain
- Updates on key topics such as skills, apprenticeships, funding, Solent Freeport and business events

- Regular newsletters covering government updates, local developments, training and events
- The opportunity to set up smaller working groups where needed
How PAMAEC operates
PAMAEC is a business-led network, supported by Portsmouth City Council’s Economic Development Team.
The Council provides administrative support, but members shape the agenda and priorities.
- Full cluster meetings take place every two months
- Working groups meet more regularly where needed
Members are expected to collaborate professionally and respect confidentiality where appropriate.
