Lakeside North Harbour has won the Sustainability Initiative award at the Property Week Commercial Property Awards for its transformative step in renewable energy generation within the UK commercial property sector.
The award recognises a landmark project that is setting a new standard for sustainable commercial developments in the UK.
Installation of 8,545 solar panels across four major building rooftops and three purpose-built solar car park canopies, supported by an advanced battery energy storage system, has transformed Lakeside into one of the country’s leading examples of integrated clean energy infrastructure.

Delivered as part of Portsmouth City Council’s wider Net Zero ambitions, the project demonstrates how innovation can create lasting environmental benefits while redefining what commercial properties can achieve through renewable energy.
Lakeside competed against some of the leading companies in the sector, including JLL, Carbon Profile, Lamington Group and Stonegate Group, to name a few.
Lakeside supports more than 60 occupiers, who are proud to be part of a transformational project that is helping redefine sustainable commercial workplaces.
Simon Bateman, Asset Manager at Lakeside North Harbour, said:
“Winning this award is a tremendous achievement for Lakeside and a proud moment for all of us. The recognition is a testament to our commitment to creating a sustainable and environmentally responsible workspace.
“Lakeside occupiers benefit from the council’s Net Zero target at no direct cost to them. We recognise our responsibility to reduce environmental impacts, enhance sustainability, and contribute positively to the community and economy.”
