Cities Outlook 2021 shows Portsmouth economy is strong

February 9, 2021

The Centre for Cities has published its annual study of the UK’s major urban areas – Cities Outlook 2021.

There’s good news for Portsmouth, as we are shown to be one of 17 strongest economies least affected by Covid, alongside cities such as Oxford, Cambridge, Exeter, Bristol, York, Aldershot, Norwich and Southampton. We are also listed as 16th least affected by covid-related unemployment.

More generally, the report finds that Covid-19’s economic damage makes the promise to level up the North and Midlands four times harder and risks levelling down prosperous places in southern England.
