Sweet transformation of Macarons to a thriving business

October 10, 2024

Pauline Macarons, a beloved home bakery based in Portsmouth has been delighting customers with its exquisite French pastries. Founded by the passionate Pauline Genevet, this local business has steadily grown, thanks to her dedication and unwavering commitment to bringing authentic French treats to British consumers.

Sweet transformation

Recently, Pauline’s entrepreneurial journey received a significant boost with a grant from the Portsmouth Match Fund. This funding enabled her to purchase a much-needed van, a game-changer for her business. Previously, Pauline had been juggling multiple markets and events using her personal car, often making multiple trips to transport her stock and equipment. The van has not only streamlined her operations but has also allowed her to expand her reach and serve more customers.

Pauline said: “Receiving the grant enabled me to purchase a van for my macarons business, transforming how I operate. With the van, I can now easily store and transport my products to multiple markets, ensuring they arrive fresh and in perfect condition, while reaching more customers than ever before.’

Pauline’s story is one of perseverance and hard work. Starting with no initial investment in 2020, she has built her business from the ground up, reinvesting profits into her venture. Today, Pauline boasts a range of assets, including a dedicated kitchen, ovens, fridges, and now, her trusty van. She has also expanded her team, employing a part-time employee to assist with production and events.

A growing business

Beyond her physical presence at local markets like Love Southsea and Hampshire Farmers Markets, Pauline has been strategically expanding her online presence. She has developed a distinctive branded box for her macarons, ensuring safe delivery and showcasing her brand. Additionally, her active social media presence, with over 2,500 followers on Instagram, has helped her connect with a wider audience.

Community impact

The Portsmouth Match Fund grant has not only benefited Pauline Macarons but has also had a positive impact on the local community. By supporting small businesses like hers, the council is fostering economic growth and creating jobs.

The Portsmouth Match Fund, launched to support small businesses in the city, has played a pivotal role in Pauline’s success. The grant provided her with the necessary funds to invest in her business’s growth and overcome potential barriers. The van, a tangible result of this investment, has significantly improved her efficiency and allowed her to reach more customers.

Customers rave about Pauline’s macarons, praising their exquisite flavours, beautiful presentation, and the care that goes into each creation. One customer, Niki King, noted, “The best macarons in so many amazing flavours. Pauline has grown her business with passion, dedication, and love.”

Pauline’s journey exemplifies the power of hard work, determination, and seizing opportunities. With the support of the Portsmouth Match Fund and her own entrepreneurial spirit, she has transformed her home bakery into a thriving business that continues to delight customers with its authentic French treats.
