£10,000 for projects that matter in Portsmouth

March 9, 2020

To celebrate the launch of Crowdfund Portsmouth, Crowdfunder, Portsmouth City Council and Shaping Portsmouth have teamed up to run a crowdfunding competition in the city.

Thanks to funding from Portsmouth City Council, there are five £2,000 prize pledges up for grabs to go towards a crowdfunding campaign.

To enter and be in with a chance of winning a share of the £10,000, local businesses should head to to submit their projects that matter today.

Any business that is building cohesion in the community, encouraging civic pride and benefiting the health and wellbeing of residents, Crowdfunder and the council want to help make the idea a reality. They want to hear ideas that will help residents into employment, or closer to employment, and bring economic benefits to local communities.

Priority will be given where the project is for an existing independent, small or medium sized enterprise seeking to grow. Example projects that are likely to be supported are the purchasing of equipment, machinery or computer equipment.

Entries close on Monday 23 March at midday. The winners will be announced on Friday 27 March.

Councillor Steve Pitt, Portsmouth City Council’s Cabinet Member for culture and city development, said: “We hope this crowdfunding competition will encourage local businesses, social enterprises and individuals to come forward to make their ideas a reality. We are
particularly keen to hear about projects that add social value.”

Dawn Bebe, Founder and Communications Director at Crowdfunder said, “We want to hear from small to medium businesses that are having (or will have) a positive impact on communities in Portsmouth. Crowdfunder is all about supporting creative ideas that tackle society’s challenges, and we’re supporting the best of those ideas with extra-funding and coaching advice to make them happen.

“Crowdfunding is so much more than raising money. It gives people and organisations a platform to validate ideas, raise awareness of new projects, and build lasting relationships with supporters. And it’s an innovative way to fund your project and grow your business.

“Not only will the five winners receive a £2,000 pledge from the council towards their Crowdfunder campaign, Crowdfunder’s expert coaches will be on hand, ready to share their crowdfunding expertise and know-how to help bring the winning ideas to life.”

To be in with a chance of winning, businesses should visit: and enter today.
